Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System Updated

Posted 23 January 2017

Are You Prepared?

All of New Zealand is at risk of earthquakes and any part of our coastline is at risk of a tsunami. It can’t be predicted when one will happen, but you can be prepared and follow the plan developed for your school.

Remember an official warning around a tsunami may only be possible for a distant or regional source event. If the tsunami has been generated from a local earthquake, you need to act quickly and follow your plan.

The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management have a new message in response to the earthquakes and tsunami risks faced in New Zealand. These are shown below. As we go through the annual audit for your school these responses will be updated accordingly in your plan.
